More Than a Thursday Route 66 reflection on Substack writing Grace To Go Grace on the Ground and Still Pouring

More Than a Thursday is something I’ve been wanting to say for a while now. A year in, fifty two episodes behind us, and somewhere along the way this counter stool became more than a weekly stop. It became a place I keep coming back to because the writing won’t stay in one lane and the road keeps handing me more than one journal can hold.

So I opened a few more doors. Same diner. Same voice. Just more seats at the table.

I want to tell you about them. Not as a pitch or a promotion. Just the way you’d tell a regular what’s new on the menu when they’ve been coming in long enough to deserve to know.

More Than a Thursday Starts on Sunday Morning

Grace To Go is what I put out on Sunday mornings before most people are fully awake. It’s a short scripture rooted reflection written the way I’d say it if we were sitting across from each other over coffee that’s still hot. No church background required. No theological résumé needed at the door.

The idea came from something I’ve believed my whole chaplain life. Grace isn’t a Sunday morning only thing. It’s a to go order. Something you pick up on your way out the door and carry with you into whatever the week is about to hand you. A sunrise on a Route 66 rest stop. A verse that hits different when the road is dark and the signal is gone and you’re two hours from anywhere.

That’s Grace To Go. Every Sunday. Free always. No paywall.

More Than a Thursday Shows Up on Wednesday Too

Grace on the Ground is the Wednesday companion. If Grace To Go is the fuel you take out onto the highway, Grace on the Ground is what happens when that fuel meets the road.

It’s simple. Every Wednesday I share one small act of kindness tied to Matthew 25 Lives. Something real. Something anybody can do. A $4 kit put together from whatever the checkout line offered. An hour at the food pantry. A note left where someone will find it.

Not a program. Not a performance. Just what it looks like when you decide to be Matthew 25 on an ordinary Wednesday in your own neighborhood. The door is open for you to share yours too. No pressure. Just an open invitation to show what grace looks like when it gets its boots on.

What Happens When the Chaplain Steps Behind the Counter

Still Pouring is the one that feels most personal. If Roadside Notes is me sitting at the counter listening, Still Pouring is me stepping behind it and telling you what I see from this side of the coffee pot.

My story. My road. The radio career I walked away from. The calling that wouldn’t stop calling no matter how many times I tried to change the subject. The things chaplain work teaches you that don’t show up in any training manual. The quiet that comes after fifty two Thursdays of showing up whether you felt like it or not.

It doesn’t publish on a schedule. It publishes when something hits and won’t wait. When the second cup of coffee is poured and everyone else has gone home and there’s something left that needs saying.

Here’s how it all works. Roadside Notes lands every Thursday on the journal every podcast directory, my you tube channel and Substack. Grace To Go arrives Sunday mornings on Substack at 6am Arizona time and follows the same path to the podcast directories. Grace on the Ground is Wednesday on Substack only, written, simple, no podcast, just one act of kindness and an open door. And then me behind the counter, Still Pouring shows up on Substack and makes its way to the podcast directories soon after.

All of it lives at roadsidenotes.substack.com. The counter is bigger than it used to be. but no worries, the coffee is always on. All of it is free. All of it is yours. Pull up a stool anytime.

✨ Roadside Reflection:

More Than a Thursday is not a reinvention. It’s just the rest of the conversation. The one that starts on Sunday with a sunrise and grace that doesn’t ask what you did to earn it. Continues on Wednesday with boots on the ground and kindness that doesn’t need an audience. Same voice. Same diner. Just more room at the table. You’ve always had a seat here. Now you’ve got a few more to choose from.
